SAFED NZ - Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving SAFED NZ is a driver development course for truck, bus and coach drivers. There are two separate courses; one for truck drivers, and one for bus and coach drivers. SAFED NZ helps organisations to:
A fuel efficient driving style is closely linked with improved road safety. Adopting simple fuel efficient driving techniques gives drivers more time to identify hazards and react to them. Save up to 10 percent of your fuel bill! Applying safe and fuel efficient driving techniques learnt through SAFED NZ can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 10 percent. Ongoing savings on repairs and maintenance are also achieved. This can make a big difference to the bottom line of your operation. The Course... This is a one full day course and is carried out using a combination of classroom-based and practical learning. Trainees are required to drive a specific route which includes a mix of urban, rural roads, state highways, intersections etc and is about 35-40 km long. A key component of the SAFED training is the measurement of before and after driver performance - this will show the trainee the actual difference, on the course, of the amount of fuel used, trip time and gear changes that can be achieved by applying the principles. Another comment we here a lot from drivers who have completed this course is how they feel much more relaxed and are are lot more alert at the end of their second drive when applying the SAFED principles SAFED NZ has been implemented by the Ministry of Transport and the NZ Transport Agency and further information can be found on the www.safednz.govt.nz website, including how many people have been currently trained and the average fuel saving overall.
